Kathy Seward MacKay, TWH 2022 Nonfiction Teaching Assistant

Kathy Seward MacKay is a former photojournalist turned writer, currently working on Unacceptable Risk: A Memoir of Marriage and Tainted Blood. She has worked for The Nashua Telegraph in southern New Hampshire and as picture editor and contract photographer for The Boston Globe. Through her narrative as a wife and widow, she tells the tragic story of how four pharmaceutical companies got away with selling HIV-and hepatitis-infected blood products to tens of thousands of hemophilia patients. Her manuscript is a continuation of her quest to expose the avoidable medical tragedy––which began with the 2004 publication of Dying in Vein: Blood, Deception … Justice, her photographic documentary. Kathy is a two-time recipient of the Individual Artist Fellowship from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts and has been a student of The Writer’s Hotel since 2019. She resides in South Florida with her husband. Learn more at kathymackaybooks.com.
